In honor of our new Imperio collection, we created a short video that travels backward through the history and culture of Mexico.
It begins with the Mexico we recognize today and moves through mariachi, lucha libre, the Golden Age of Mexican cinema, the Mexican Revolution, independence, and the Mexica world. The journey ends with the eagle standing on a nopal and devouring a serpent, the same symbol at the center of the Imperio collection.
The idea was to show how generations of creativity, resistance, tradition, and pride can be traced back through time. Instead of making a traditional product commercial, we wanted the video to feel like history and memory coming back to life.
About 95 percent of the project was created using Photoshop, After Effects, and Premiere Pro.
In Photoshop, we prepared the black and white images and separated the people, objects, and backgrounds into individual layers. Those layers were then brought into After Effects, where we built the 2.5D parallax movement and created depth inside images that were originally flat and still. Premiere Pro was used to bring everything together, shape the rhythm, and complete the final edit.
We did use AI for one very specific part of the process: masking people and objects from their backgrounds.
Could we have masked every photograph manually? Technically, yes. It also would have taken me years, and my hand probably would have fallen off before I finished. AI helped speed up that repetitive part of the process, while the composition, animation, timing, effects, editing, and overall creative direction were built by hand.
Adding film noise, chromatic aberration, dust, particles, smoke, and other atmospheric details helped the scenes feel more realistic. Those imperfections gave the images movement and texture, making each moment feel less like a photograph and more like a memory unfolding in front of you.
The result is a visual journey through Mexico and the story behind the symbol that inspired Imperio.
